    Treatment

    How Acupuncture Works

Acupuncture treats mind, body and emotions. It is a way of treating health conditions by placing very fine needles along energy channels to even the flow of vital energy or qi. Invisible energy channels run through the body connecting the exterior with the interior and all the organ systems of the human body. A disharmony in the flow of qi in one channel or part of the body will often effect the flow of qi through the whole network of channels. I can access this disharmony through the acupuncture points located along these channels. Acupuncture is especially effective in treating conditions which have a physical and an emotional dimension, as a person’s emotional state is symptomatic of his or her physical condition.

The acupuncture needles I use are very fine and designed for quick and comfortable use. I use high quality, sterile, disposable needles.

    How Cupping Works

Specially designed suction cups are placed on the skin on tense and sore muscles. The suction helps relieve stiffness and improve circulation.

    Moxibustion

Moxa is a wonderful warming treatment, which brings relief to "cold" conditions, backache, muscular aches, period pains etc. Moxa is a deeply relaxing treatment. It is held above an area or point to gently warm and increase blood and qi flow to a problem area. It is especially useful for musculoskeletal and gynaecological conditions. It can aid fertility and healing.

    Auricular Acupuncture

Points on the ear are needled or ear seeds are applied for therapeutic results. I use this as an adjunct to body acupuncture.

    Other TCM Techniques

Techniques such as Acupressure and stimulation of acupuncture points using an electronic device (like a tens machine) can be effective especially for musculo-skeletal conditions and labour Induction for child birth.

    Shiatsu Treatment

Shiatsu has its origins in the theory and techniques of traditional Chinese massage, acupuncture and herbal medicine which are over 5000 years old. It developed as a fusion of traditional Chinese medicine and Japanese and western anatomical and physiology. Both Acupuncture and Shiatsu are about balancing your qi your energy and life force which determines your day-to-day energy, vitality and immune system.

Apart from developing a deep state of relaxation, Shiatsu like Acupuncture promotes homeostasis and the body’s own self-healing mechanisms by balancing your vital energy systems. Shiatsu and Acupuncture soothe your digestion and breathing by activating the parasympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system. This is the opposite of the "fight or flight" reaction. This is why we tend to feel so relaxed after a treatment.

    What to expect from Shiatsu

Shiatsu is given through loose clothing on a futon on the floor. Similar to the Acupuncture diagnosis although less detailed, I will use verbal, visual and touch diagnosis to locate your areas of energy blockage. Shiatsu helps the realignment and maintenance of bone structure, joints tendons and muscles. As with Acupuncture, Shiatsu helps to relieve stress and emotional tension. It is a gentle yet powerful therapy.
